Imprint and postal contact detailsYou can request deletion of your Moviebase account and associated personal data in the app or by email. You do not need to reinstall the app to send an email request.
Deleting Moviebase does not cancel a subscription. Manage any active subscription in the store that billed you before deleting your account.
Request deletion in the app
- Open Moviebase and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open Settings and find the account section.
- Select Delete account, read the confirmation and confirm if you wish to continue.
- Complete any requested sign-in verification. If deletion fails or you cannot access the account, use the email route below.
Export any library information you want to keep first. An export may not include all personal-data categories. Deletion cannot be undone once completed. The location or wording of controls can vary between app versions.
Request deletion without the app
Email help@moviebase.app with the subject Moviebase account deletion. Where possible, send the request from the email associated with your Moviebase account and include your Moviebase username or public profile link. If you used Apple’s private relay, mention that fact so we can locate the correct account.
If you cannot access the original email, explain the issue. We may request proportionate evidence to verify ownership before deleting data. Never send your password, a sign-in code or unnecessary identity documents. You can also use the postal address in our Imprint. This is a request route, not an instant deletion button.
What deletion covers
The request covers your Moviebase account and associated profile, synchronized library/watch records, published lists, comments, uploaded profile/comment images and social relationships. Replies to your comments and comments others posted on your lists are deleted as well. Account deletion involves more than removing the app from your device.
Some records may remain while deletion completes or where a legal or justified security purpose requires retention: backup/cache copies, transaction/legal records, limited fraud or moderation evidence, identifier reservations (a released username stays reserved for 30 days) and deletion-completion records. These exceptions do not authorize indefinite ordinary publication of deleted content. See retention in Privacy. Contact us to request confirmation of what was removed or why a record remains.
For GDPR requests, we respond without undue delay and normally within one month; any permitted extension will be explained within that period. This response period is not a promise that independent copies or every backup disappear immediately.
What you manage separately
- Subscriptions: use Apple subscription settings or Google Play subscriptions. Uninstalling or deleting an account does not itself stop renewal.
- Connected services: Moviebase deletion does not delete your Trakt, Google or Apple account or erase records held independently by them.
- Device files: exports, screenshots and copies you saved separately remain under your control.
- Public copies: other people or search services may retain independently made copies.
To remove a particular contribution or exercise another privacy right instead of closing the account, use the relevant in-app controls or contact us. Signing out or making a profile private does not delete the account.
