DC needs separate lists, not one timeline
These seven films are a selected introduction to different DC screen continuities. They are not a complete DC filmography, and their release years do not turn them into one shared story.
Start with the Dark Knight trilogy
Watch Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises in that order. These three films tell one connected version of Bruce Wayne’s story and offer a clearly bounded first project.
Our recommendation favors the trilogy for its consistent central cast and manageable scope. Expect crime-thriller elements and escalating action rather than a tour of the full DC character roster.
Keep the DCEU introductions together
Man of Steel and Wonder Woman introduce different characters within the DCEU. They are selected starting points here, not a complete DCEU watch order. If you continue into crossover films, build a dedicated list rather than inserting them between Nolan’s Batman films.
Treat the standalone films separately
Joker (2019) and The Batman (2022) belong to separate continuities from both the Dark Knight trilogy and each other. Neither is a missing chapter in Nolan’s story. They also differ in tone: one is a bleak character study, the other a detective-led Batman film.
Choose by tone
Pick the Dark Knight trilogy for a connected arc, Wonder Woman for a more adventure-oriented introduction, or The Batman for a slower investigation. These are editorial directions, not a single best-to-worst ranking. The TMDB ratings provide audience context, but cannot tell you which continuity to follow.
Keep separate Moviebase lists for each universe. The individual title links help you track the right film without confusing different versions of the same character.
