How to Sync Trakt.tv with Moviebase
Step-by-step guide to connecting your Trakt.tv account with Moviebase for seamless watch history sync, ratings, and list management.

Why Trakt Sync Matters
Without sync, your watch history lives on one device. If you lose your phone, switch apps, or want to access your data from the web, everything is gone. Trakt.tv solves this by acting as a cloud backbone for your entertainment data.
Moviebase's Trakt integration syncs your watch history, ratings, watchlists, and collections across every Trakt-compatible app. Set it up once and your data is safe, portable, and always current.
Trakt.tv sync works with both free and VIP Trakt accounts. A free account gives you full sync with Moviebase. VIP adds advanced stats on the Trakt website.
If you do not have a Trakt.tv account, head to trakt.tv and sign up. You need a valid email address. The free tier is sufficient for full Moviebase sync.
If you have been tracking with another service, check whether Trakt supports importing from it. Importing before connecting to Moviebase means your full history will be waiting when you sync.
In Moviebase, open the navigation drawer and tap Settings. Scroll to the Trakt.tv section. You will see the option to connect your account and configure sync preferences.
Tap Connect next to Trakt.tv. Moviebase opens a browser window where you log in to Trakt and approve the connection. Review the permissions and tap Approve.
After authorization, you are redirected back to Moviebase. Your Trakt username appears in the settings, confirming the connection is active.
Make sure you authorize the Trakt account you intend to keep long term. Connecting a duplicate or test account is a common mistake that creates messy sync conflicts later.
Before running your first sync, choose what to synchronize:
- Watch history — which movies and episodes you have seen
- Ratings — your personal scores for movies and shows
- Watchlist — titles you want to watch next
- Collections — your owned media library
Most users enable all four for a complete sync. If you are unsure, start with watch history and ratings, verify the results, then enable the rest.
Tap the sync button. The first sync may take a few minutes depending on how much Trakt data you have. A progress indicator shows the import status.
Once complete, check your Moviebase library: open a few recent movies, verify your TV show progress, and confirm your ratings transferred. Future syncs run automatically in the background.
