The Incredibles Movies in Order: Films and Optional Shorts

Start with The Incredibles (2004), then Incredibles 2 (2018). The sequel continues the Parr family’s story; the long gap between releases does not make it a reboot.

Where should you start?

Watch The Incredibles before Incredibles 2. The original introduces the Parr family, their powers and the pressures inside their household. The sequel continues that situation rather than starting over with a new version of the family.

The two films in order

  1. The Incredibles (2004)
  2. Incredibles 2 (2018)

The fourteen-year gap between their releases is not a viewing-order puzzle. Keep the films together in this sequence; you do not need another superhero series to explain the world.

Do the shorts belong in the main order?

Treat shorts featuring the family as optional extras. They can give a character another comic situation without becoming essential bridges between the features. For a first watch, finish the films in order and explore the extras afterward if you still want more.

This checklist covers the two features shown above. Future entries belong in a later update once their release and place in the collection are verified, not in the middle of a current first-watch plan.

Our take on the collection

Moviebase editorial

The most distinctive comedy comes from applying extraordinary abilities to ordinary family pressures. Being able to stretch, run fast or turn invisible does not remove the need to listen, share responsibility or give someone else room to act.

The original is a good introduction to that tension. The sequel changes the balance of work and parenting within the household, making the two films useful companions rather than just two collections of fights. Watch for how an argument at home changes what a character needs from the next action scene.

The action can be more threatening than the bright design suggests. If choosing a family film, look at local content guidance rather than assuming superhero animation will suit every age or sensitivity.

Planning your watchlist

One film per evening is the easiest plan. A double feature runs close to four hours before breaks using the durations shown on the cards, so allow time to stop between the two.

If you only have one evening, the original is a complete starting experience. Return for the sequel because you want another chapter with the family, not because you need to finish a large connected universe. For another compact Pixar pair, try Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.
