Where should you start?
Release order is the simplest introduction to the Conjuring films and their connected spin-offs. It lets recurring objects and references appear in the order audiences first encountered them. A historical timeline is an optional rewatch approach, not a requirement for understanding the individual hauntings.
Nine films in release order
- The Conjuring (2013)
- Annabelle (2014)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- Annabelle: Creation (2017)
- The Nun (2018)
- Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
- The Nun II (2023)
- The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025)
This is the nine-film selection shown in the cards: four main Conjuring films, three Annabelle films and two Nun films. Last Rites is included as a released 2025 film. A TMDB collection groups one branch; the guide combines three collections rather than treating any one of them as the entire universe.
Just the main Conjuring films
- The Conjuring (2013)
- The Conjuring 2 (2016)
- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
- The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025)
Choose this shorter route if you mainly want the films centered on Ed and Lorraine Warren. It preserves release order without requiring every spin-off. The films dramatize stories promoted as based on real cases; that marketing does not establish the supernatural events as fact.
Annabelle and The Nun: separate branches
For Annabelle in release order, watch:
Creation is a prequel to Annabelle. For a story-order rewatch of this branch, move Creation before Annabelle and finish with Comes Home. Scenes that connect the films do not require a scene-by-scene timeline.
For The Nun, watch:
The sequel follows the first Nun film. Both belong to an earlier period than the main Conjuring stories, but first-time viewers can keep the overall release order and encounter the connections as they were introduced.
Does The Curse of La Llorona count?
The Curse of La Llorona (2019) has an Annabelle-related connection, but this guide treats it as an optional associated film rather than a tenth required entry. It is outside the three branches selected above and outside the nine cards. Keeping that boundary explicit avoids making a disputed universe count look definitive.
Our take on the collection
Moviebase editorial
These films favor haunted spaces, slow tension and sudden shocks. The related branches have different casts and styles, so a preference for the central Warren stories does not guarantee that every spin-off will suit you. Their claims of real-world inspiration should not be treated as independently verified accounts.
Planning your watchlist
The grid combines the main Conjuring series with the Annabelle and Nun films. Keep other loosely associated titles separate and label any connection explicitly instead of silently expanding the universe.
