Why is email sign-in being retired?

Google and Apple sign-in need no passwords or sign-in emails, are protected by your Google or Apple security settings, and make it easy to use the same account on every device.

Will I lose my lists, ratings or watch history?

Accepted Answer

No. Connecting adds Google or Apple to the account you already have. Your watchlist, lists, watch history, ratings and Premium stay exactly as they are.

Question 3

I don't see “Connect Google or Apple” in Settings.

Accepted Answer

Update Moviebase to the latest version first. The option only appears when you're signed in with an email account. If it's gone, your account is already connected.

Question 4

I forgot my password.

Accepted Answer

You don't need it. Tap “I have an email account” on the sign-in screen and enter your email address. We send you a link that signs you in.

Question 5

The sign-in email doesn't arrive.

Accepted Answer

Check your spam and promotions folders, and make sure you entered the address your account was created with. Links expire, so request a new one if an older link doesn't work.

Question 6

The app says there is no account for my email address.

Accepted Answer

Your account may use a different address, for example an old or work email. Try that one. If none works, contact us with the addresses you might have used.

Question 7

It says “Connecting failed”.

Accepted Answer

Try again with a stable connection. If it keeps failing, that Google or Apple account is probably already used by another Moviebase account. Choose a different Google or Apple account, or contact us and we'll help.

Question 8

I signed in with Google or Apple and my library is empty.

Accepted Answer

You're in a new, separate account. Sign out in Settings, tap “I have an email account” to sign in to your original account, then connect Google or Apple from there. Contact us if you need to combine accounts.

Question 9

I don't have a Google or Apple account.

Accepted Answer

Either one works, on iPhone and Android. You can create a Google account for free with any email address, or use an Apple Account.

Question 10

Do I need to do this on every device?

Accepted Answer

No. Connect once, then sign in with Google or Apple on any phone or tablet to reach the same account.

Question 11

I don't want to keep my account. How do I delete it?

Accepted Answer

In Moviebase, go to Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account. You can also request deletion on our account deletion page. Deleting doesn't cancel a Premium subscription; cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.

Email sign-in is ending. Keep your library with Google or Apple.
