Watch the three released films in order, beginning with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. They take place before Harry Potter’s school years but form their own story. You do not need to insert them between the eight Harry Potter films on a first watch.

The opening film’s creature encounters give way to a broader political and family conflict in the sequels. That shift can be rewarding if you want more Wizarding World history, but less satisfying if Newt’s smaller adventures were the main attraction. The released films do not provide every resolution once envisioned for the wider story.
